Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is widening Hwy 271 & the project is expected to be constructed in three phases:
- Phase 1: from FM 16 in Smith County to Loop 485 in Gladewater.
- Phase 2: widening of Loop 485 around the east side of Gladewater to US 80.
- Phase 3: continues widening Loop 485 from US 80 north to US 271 and then along US 271 to the Upshur County line.

Due to this, we must move over 4 miles of waterlines to accomodate the widening of the highway.
Once the construction on Highway 271 is complete, we will be upgrading the line on part of CR 374 and part of CR 366.
Construction is estimated to take aroud 6 months on 271 and 2 months on the upgrade. Our official project start date is Monday, January 5, 2026.
